Ode to Paper & Pens

By Kathleen T. Jaeger, copyright 2010

A fresh pad of paper
And bright blue ink
As blue as the sky
And the station wagon
We were in.

Armed with these,
No one could lock me out
Of the code I longed to know.
For here I was
The Master of the Message.

Sunshine,
Blue sky,
And the joy of
Fresh paper and ink.

  2. Is this a memory of the past? Just thinking of station wagons and pens with blue ink made me go back in time to the days when I would use my parents Chevy station wagon to drive up to the mountains in Tennessee and write in my notebook with a blue Bic stick pen. I always used blue back then. Guess I started using black sometime in the 80s maybe?
Liked the message and the imagery.

  3. Wow, that was awesome! It wasn't your run of the mill poem, rhyming in all the right places. It was....unexpected. Very good!

So glad to meet a fellow 'Dogs' fan!

  6. Lisa, arleebird, melodygreen, wanda, ellie, deborah...thank you all for the encouragement of this posted poem. It IS a specific memory of receiving pen & paper in a goody bag at a company picnic for my dad's work. My grandpa was in the car which means I couldn't yet read. But it is the love of fresh paper and ink which I still love that I wanted to communicate. I began writing it in a new journal that I had received and edited it several times to get to this version. Thank you all my new writer friends for the encouragment!
